Using the Storytelling/Story Acting Process for Teacher Development
Pack, Judi
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n176 p50-53 Jul-Aug 2007
Vivian Gussin Paley, a MacArthur Award-winning author and former kindergarten teacher, has written 12 books that chronicle her work in promoting the fantasy play of young children. A major focus of her books is a process that she developed called "Doing Stories" or "Storytelling/Story Acting" (ST/SA). The ST/SA process requires only that teachers are curious and interested in learning about children and value their play. Creating a ST/SA network is a powerful yet simple tool for reciprocal learning. In this article, the author describes how a communal ST/SA process was introduced into her school. She also describes the positive impact of ST/SA on teacher learning. (Contains 3 resources.)
