Earthkeepers. Four Keys for Helping Young People Live in Harmony with the Earth.
Van Matre, Steve; Johnson, Bruce
Students must be educated about the planet on which they live. This book presents instructional ideas for anyone who is charged with developing an environmental program for students. Chapter 1, "The Whys, Whats and Ways of Earth Education," provides a description of the program and how it can be used to teach students of their role in securing a safe environment for humans and other living organisms that share this planet with them. Chapter 2, "The Earthkeepers Program," examines how the program accomplishes the aforementioned task. Chapter 3, "The Keys to Becoming a Trainer," discusses how to motivate students to participate in the environmental activities and help students to stay on the task at hand. Chapter 4, "The Earthkeepers Activities," presents various activities that focuses on developing a deeper understanding of one ecological concept, cooperative learning, problem solving, and enhancing students' ability to accept responsibilities within the group. Finally, in chapter 5, "The Leadership Guidelines," provide insights gained from previous experience observing both leaders and learners in the environmental education field. (ZWH)
