Creating a Cooperative Learning Center: An Idea-Book for Homeschooling Families.
Houk, Katharine
Cooperative learning centers can provide educational activities for home-schooled children as well as support networks for home-schooling parents. This guide recounts development of a cooperative learning center founded by parents of over 70 home-educated children in upstate New York. Part 1 of the book details the development of The Alternative Learning Center (TALC) and its organization and operation, including its structure and bylaws, agreements and contracts, meeting of education requirements, financial support, and use of computers. Sample organizational documents are included. Part 2 contains six appendices: (1) organizational documents, including press releases and bylaws; (2) day-to-day operation, including questionnaires, interest surveys, field trip proposal sheets, and job descriptions; (3) a list of TALC's workshops and field trips; (4) facilities, advertising, funding, and insurance considerations; (5) sample registration form; and (6) descriptions of other learning centers. The book concludes with a list of organizational and published resources for home-schooling. (KB)
