Strategies for Planning for the Future
Holly, L. Neal
New Directions for Higher Education, n150 p109-116 Sum 2010
This chapter describes strategies that college leaders and faculty can use to develop international collaborations, questions that partners should consider prior to engaging in collaboration, and ways to avoid problems further into the process. It synthesizes the themes within the volume, focusing on the role of motivating factors and assumptions partners bring to international collaborations. Partners have different resources at their disposal and different levels of power to wield during negotiations and during the development process. Further, cross-border ventures create different issues based on the level of engagement. Leaders face particular challenges as they negotiate partnerships, whereas faculty and students have their own sets of concerns emanating from their international forays. Finally, a series of questions and strategies are put forth as partners consider international collaborations. (Contains 6 resources and 5 online resources.)
