A lesson is presented that is designed to assist intermediate and advanced students of Spanish in both language proficiency and cultural understanding. Entirely in Spanish, the lesson focuses on the character of Tio Conejo, a well-known figure in Latin American folklore, offering insight into the significant contribution made to Hispanic civilization by people of African-American descent. The lesson consists of a story with footnotes, vocabulary and expression lists, and a series of exercises to check comprehension and develop vocabulary. A brief bibliography is also included for students interested in other tales of the misadventures of Tio Conejo or other aspects of the Latin American oral tradition. (MSE)
