On Impact: A Case of a Student with Head Injuries
Buckley, Valerie A.; Chesire, David J.; Canto, Angela I.
Communique, v40 n1 p38 Sep 2011
This article describes a case of a student with head injuries. While the symptom presentation for students with traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be vastly different, this case represents common symptoms seen in students who are recovering from a concussion. The authors suggest that school psychologists query the teacher and parents about their concerns and then analyze the presenting problem, especially as it relates to changes in performance (whether academically, behaviorally, or socially) that result from a traumatic brain injury. Ongoing evaluation should be part of any reentry and follow-up process as the brain injury continues to heal over time.
