Cornelius, Fran; Glasgow, Mary Ellen Smith
TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v51 n6 p32-35 Dec 2007
Technology's impact on the delivery of health care mandates that nursing faculty use all technologies at their disposal to better prepare students to work in technology-infused health care environments. Essential components of an infrastructure to grow technology-infused nursing education include a skilled team comprised of tech-savvy faculty and support staff as well as up-to-date tools and facilities. This article discusses Drexel University's technology-infused nursing education model that is designed to prepare its graduates to be successful in a very dynamic health-care environment. Keeping current with technological innovation and developing a culture that supports and encourages technology and innovation among faculty, staff, students, and graduates leads to improved care environments, patient outcomes, and career satisfaction. The goal of the university is to produce the next generation of expert clinicians and innovators as well as to provide rewards and recognition for such innovation.
