Huth, Thorsten
Unterrichtspraxis/Teaching German, v40 n1 p21-33 Spr 2007
In the context of teaching culture, this article presents teaching materials that provide learners of German with opportunities to reflect about, analyze, and practice, how Germans commonly react to compliments. Based on findings from conversation analysis, the materials provide students with rich contextual information and a variety of opportunities for in-class practice, making them suitable for L2 learners of all levels. The goals of the unit are to equip students with culture-specific speaking strategies and fostering intercultural awareness. Chances and challenges of using such materials as well as ways to integrate them into a communicative, task-based classroom are discussed.
