The Strategic Study Group on the Status of Women: Report to the President and the Commission for Women--Recommendation Package #1.
Pennsylvania State Univ., University Park.
The document presents partial recommendations of a Pennsylvania State University Study Group on the Status of Women at the University. Recommendations concern job assessment and evaluation, recruitment of women faculty, part-time benefits and compensation, and recruitment of women administrators. Among specific recommendations are the following: (1) replace the multiple job evaluation plans currently in use with a single evaluation plan for all classes of staff employees; (2) increase the number of women in standing professorial ranks at all locations with special attention given to recruiting women for appointments at senior ranks; (3) offer prorated benefits and increase pay for part-time employees who have worked 750+ hours for at least 2 consecutive years; and (4) increase the number of women in executive and administrative leadership positions throughout the University by adopting a "serious search" strategy. Preliminary findings on the current status of women at the University are presented in narrative and graphic forms. For each recommendation there is usually a discussion of the problem and its background, and the rationale for the recommendation. Appended papers provide additional documentation on gender differences in faculty salaries at the University, recruitment of women faculty at the University, and a benefit-cost analysis for part-time employees. Fourteen references are attached. (DB)
