Senior Leader Career Management: Implications for Senior Leaders and Organizations
Larkin, Jean
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Pennsylvania
This qualitative research study across three large consumer products organizations explored career management of senior leaders to gain an understanding of what is important to senior leaders in their careers and what strategies they are using for career management. It also investigated senior leaders' expectations of organizations for career support and their perspectives of current organizational support. This study revealed that organizations have a limited understanding of what is important to senior leaders as they think about their careers and almost no understanding of the strategies senior leaders use for career management. As a result the strategies that companies put in place will not allow them to retain and fully leverage this important segment of the workforce. Practical implications for senior leaders and their organizations are discussed. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
