Evaluating Gender Discrimination Claims: Is There a Gender Similarity Bias?
Elkins, Teri J.; Phillips, James S.; Konopaske, Robert; Townsend, Joellyn
Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, v44 n1-2 p1-15 Jan 2001
Investigated the possible existence of a gender similarity bias in evaluations of gender discrimination allegations, using a laboratory experiment in which the strength of evidence against a defendant company and the gender of the plaintiff were manipulated. Participants were ethnically diverse undergraduate students. Although female mock jurors did not rule to the disadvantage of male plaintiffs, they tended to favor female plaintiffs. (SM)
