Analyzing the Communication Dynamics of Political Campaigns
Tannenbaum, Sally
Communication Teacher, v21 n3 p99-101 Jul 2007
It is widely agreed that college students do not fully participate in the political process. The most commonly cited reasons are apathy, indifference, and ignorance. This article presents an activity that aims to help students learn about communication dynamics in the context of political campaigns and develop an appreciation and confidence about the role and relevance that political campaigns play in their own lives. The activity is developed for use in Political Communication, Political Campaign Communication, and Persuasion. In this activity, students gain insight into how communication impacts political campaigns by completing a pre- and post-analysis of the communication strategies used in a specific political campaign. A list of references and suggested readings is included.
