Thompson, Lorna J.; Kratochvil, Daniel W.
This report of the development of a drug-educational product which appears to have potential impact, is based upon published materials, documents in the files of the developing agency, and interviews with staff who were involved in the development of the product. The long-range goal of the drug program is to encourage young people to develop mature, sensible and knowledgeable attitudes regarding people who use and abuse both legal and illegal drugs. During the program facts are presented, and discussion about drugs and drug use encouraged. Children from kindergarten through grade 9 were exposed to the program. The Multi-sensory Learning Package, including flash cards, tapes, booklets, letters, filmstrip, slides, coloring books and Teachers' Manual, is described, as are the development of ideas for the project and of the project itself, funding, and the key personnel. Factors relating to the diffusion and adoption of the product are discussed, and anticipated actions described. A detailed appendix is included. (KS)
