Idiocy and the Law in Colonial New England.
Wickham, Parnel
Mental Retardation, v39 n2 p104-13 Apr 2001
A review of laws and records of the courts of colonial New England indicates early laws of Massachusetts extended certain rights to idiots: they authorized the transfer of property, exonerated idiots who committed capital crimes, and extended relief to impoverished idiots. The relationship between colonial laws and present legislation is examined. (Contains references.) (Author/CR)
