What Kinds of Collaboration Do You Engage in for the Benefit of Your Students?
Potash, Betsy; Oxford, Janelle
English Journal, v99 n5 p22-23 May 2010
In this article, the authors share what kinds of collaboration they engage in for the benefit of their students. The first author introduces the Bread Loaf Teacher Network which connects classes across the world--urban and rural, East Coast and West Coast, American, African, Indian, and European. The second author encourages teachers to consider joining forces with another teacher at a different grade level, preferably from a school in a different community. She describes how she joined forces with a university English professor, and together they have made the best impact on her students in her 18 years of teaching. She stresses that becoming a part of a collaborative team has not only helped her students grow, but it has also helped her grow as a teacher, learning new ways to incorporate technology such as social networks, blogs, and webcams.
