Display Tactics
Tetlow, Linda
Mathematics Teaching, n216 p20-26 Nov 2009
Display took a wide variety of forms ranging from students presenting their initial planning and thought processes, to displays of their finished work, and their suggestions for extending the task should they, or others, have time to return to it in the future. A variety of different media were used from traditional posters in many shapes and sizes, 3-D models and digital records such as "Word" documents, "PowerPoint" presentations and movie clips. These displays were shared with student's own class and, in some cases, with a wider audience through schools' Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). In this article, the author noticed that a common theme that emerged from schools taking part in the "Engaging mathematics for all learners" project was the importance that teachers involved gave to displaying and sharing students' work.
