National Guide to Funding for Libraries and Information Services. Fifth Edition.
Cantarella, Gina-Marie, Ed.
This volume is intended as a starting point for grantseekers looking for foundation, corporate and other charitable support for libraries and information services. It contains a total of 880 entries including 815 grantmaking foundations, 7 direct corporate giving programs and 58 public charities (including 53 community foundations) that have shown a substantial interest in libraries or information services, either as part of their stated fields of interest or through actual grants of $10,000 or more reported to the Foundation Center in the latest year of record. Grants for libraries and information services are listed for 313 of the foundations in this volume. These 1,581 grants represent over $205.6 million in support for a variety of organizations concerned with libraries and information services. Grantseekers should be aware that inclusion does not imply that these grantmakers will consider all programs for libraries and information services. Since 1989 the Foundation Center has used a Grants Classification System (GCS) based on the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities coding system. This edition represents the culmination of a major project to utilize the more comprehensive and precise GCS terminology across all Foundation Center publications and files. Enhancements to this guide include a new section in grantmaker descriptive entries identifying any international giving interests of an organization and an expansion of the full scope of the terminology used to describe a grantmaker's areas of interests. The Guide is arranged alphabetically by state and, within states, by foundation name. Each descriptive entry is assigned a sequence number--references in the indexes are to these entry numbers. Includes a glossary; bibliography; resources; listing of Foundation Center cooperating collections; descriptive directory; and six indexes: (1) donors, officers, trustees, (2) geographic, (3) types of support, (4) grantmakers by subject, (5) grants by subject, and (6) grantmaker name.
