Terrace Town
Sabin, Heather
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v109 n8 p50-51 Apr 2010
The "Terrace Town" program brings architecture and city planning curriculum to elementary schools in Madison, Wisconsin, and surrounding areas. Over eight weeks, classrooms discuss what makes a community livable, sustainable, and kid-friendly. Throughout the process, students gain a better understanding of their own city environments and propose improvements. Student work culminates in the design and construction of model cities made from boxes and other recycled materials. This article provides information on how this program works, the people responsible for this initiative, and the benefits that this program delivers to all involved. (Contains 2 online resources.)
