Described are the investigatory procedures, research and development, and achievements and conclusions for each of 12 work assignments for the 13-month period from January 1, 1974 through January 31, 1975 relating to the University of Mid-America (UMA). UMA is a regional consortium, comprised of the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Iowa State University, the University of Missouri, and the University of Nebraska. The projects were in the areas of: curriculum planning for open learning; alternative approaches to courseware development: costs and procedures; cost analysis and comparison; a five-year plan of operations and a five-year expenditure and income projection; administrative structures and plans for the State University of Nebraska; a prototype resource center and operational plans for a series of intrastate resource centers; evaluation and acquisition of existing courseware, and adaptation to the State University of Nebraska's needs; broadcast and other open-learning delivery systems; a plan to broaden the open-learning fiscal base to include private and other public sources; course development of two working prototype open-learning multimedia courses; planning for systematic development and evaluation of eight additional courses; and formative and summative evaluation of the open-learning courseware and delivery system.
