Rebooting the Brain: Using Early Childhood Education to Heal Trauma from Abuse and Neglect
McLintock, Ben
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n201 p65-67 Sep-Oct 2011
Abused and neglected children live in a world that usually includes some sort of violence, chaos, and tremendous physical and mental stress. This toxic environment wreaks havoc on a child's developing brain. This article discusses how to use early childhood education to heal trauma from abuse and neglect. It shares the story of two children, Bryce and Jayme, who are living proof that when that opportunity is acted upon, abused children can have a chance to enter school on equal footing with the rest of their classmates, grow up to become productive members of society, and bring everyone one step closer to breaking the cycle of child abuse.
