Stacks of Ideas. Activities for the Library Media Center and Classroom, 7-12.
Spriestersbach, Barbara, Ed.; Cowen, Linda, Ed.
This guide is a collection of 35 model units of instruction for grades 7-12 that has been developed to illustrate the relationship between information skills and the curriculum. Each unit includes goals, learner outcomes for the content, information skills areas, student activities, and an evaluation plan. Teaching methods include simulations, games, and independent study projects; a current events unit includes an introduction to online searching. It is suggested that teachers and library media specialists cooperate to adapt and execute these units and design other units and activities that integrate information skills with classroom content in a variety of disciplines. Appendixes include a flowchart for planning integrated units; a form for assessing the curriculum involvement of the library media center; and a form for evaluating a unit to be completed by the teacher.
