Intended for parents, the booklet focuses on the speech and language development of children with language delays. The following topics are among those considered: the parent's role in the initial diagnosis of deafness, intellectual handicap, and neurological difficulties; diagnoses and single causes of difficultiy with speech; what to say to professionals and neighbors; significant behaviors of a language disordered child; preliminary exercises for developing speech; expressive language; articulation problems; and children with special language problems (stuttering, cleft palate, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and emotional disturbance).
