The study examines the status of behavioral management services for disabled persons in Alberta, Canada, and offers recommendations regarding alternative service delivery models for the Northwest Region of Alberta. Existing systems are addressed in terms of centralized service models, outreach service models, and combined residential and outreach models. Advantages and disadvantages of each type are noted. A literature review on development of a community behavior management service explores methods for assessment, consultation, and program evaluation. Data are then summarized on resources and needs from interviews with residential facilities, vocational rehabilitation centers, and school systems. Recommendations are then offered regarding provincial policy, the philosophical base, and goals and objectives of a comprehensive community behavior services system (CBSS) specific operating guidelines for a CBSS are listed.
