Intended to extend the existing science and health education curriculum at junior and senior high school levels, the curriculum presents four mini-units on specific disabilities. The first section provides lesson plans about hearing impairments, and includes four lesson plans listing themes, objectives, and discussion guidelines for such topics as causes and effects of hearing impairments, manual communication, and myths and facts about hearing impairments. A mini-unit on visual impairment contains four lessons on topics including the visual process, different types of visual impairment, and aids and adaptive techniques for the visually impaired. The third mini-unit, on nervous system disorders, presents lessons on such topics as physical problems arising from nervous system disorders, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and spina bifida, and other spinal chord disorders. Scoliosis is the subject of a fourth section. A final section is devoted to love, marriage, and parenthood for people with physical disabilities. (CL)
