Job Satisfaction of Secondary School Teachers
Crossman, Alf; Harris, Penelope
Educational Management Administration & Leadership, v34 n1 p29-46 2006
Low job satisfaction has been cited as a possible cause of the current teaching crisis in the UK. This article reports on a study that examined job satisfaction among secondary school teachers in different types of secondary school. The results indicate a significant difference in the overall job satisfaction scores of teachers by type of school. Teachers in independent and privately-managed schools exhibited the highest satisfaction levels while those in foundation schools exhibited the lowest. No significant difference in satisfaction was found when the data were analyzed by age, gender and length of service. (Contains 2 figures and 4 tables.)
