Experiences in prenatal life and early childhood that may cause personality disorders or criminal behavior in later life are examined in these proceedings of the Subcommittee on Childhood Experiences as Causes of Criminal Behavior of the Standing Committee on Health, Welfare and Science. This issue, the eleventh in a series of 19 hearings dating from November 1977 to July 1978, begins with the testimony of Nancy Erickson concerning appropriate values and new practices for the survival of humans on the earth. Her belief is that unless we teach the next generation to care about all life, there will be nothing left for them to care about. Also reported is the testimony of Neal Jotham, who suggests the integration of "humaneness" into the educational system in order to help overcome the acceptance of violence and over-exploitation as natural and legitimate elements of our culture. Questions of committee members probe related issues which include problems of pollution and famine, economic development and growth, television programming for ecological education, and global education intervention strategies.
