Internal Colonialism and Native Americans: Indian Labor in the United States from 1871 to World War II.
Jacobson, Cardell K.
Social Science Quarterly, v65 n1 p158-71 Mar 1984
The major factor affecting Indian labor in the latter half of the nineteenth century was corporate colonialism. The demise of tribal societies is directly tied to the invasion of the railroad, coal, cattle, and oil industries on the reservations. The colonization of Indian lands was another important factor.
