By integrating RSS feeds of new books into their campus' course management system, the authors, a systems librarian (Corrado) and a cataloging/modern languages librarian (Moulaison) at the The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), simplified initial research and spotlighted the library's collections. Faculty members are flocking to this award-winning project. Corrado states that his idea was to integrate RSS feeds of new subject-specific books into the course management system (CMS) on campus. The basis for his idea was to have the RSS feeds display automatically on a Web page. The goal was to get relevant lists of recent monographic acquisitions to display prominently on the CMS page for any class on any subject, with headlines tailored to that course and anticipating user need. He created the RSS feeds of new library acquisitions in a three-stage process: (1) Get the appropriate data out of the library catalog; (2) Convert the data into an RSS feed; and (3) Display the RSS feed in the CMS. The authors state that they are convinced that once the campus community sees what the library has to offer, people will be impressed with the collection, intrigued by by the acquisitions, and will want to use the print resources. They state that this project has been a "win-win-win" situation for TCNJ because: (1) users win when they can easily find library print resources; (2) librarians and administrators win when users take advantage of library services and resources; and (3) the college wins when an environment of creative collaboration can be fostered.
