Triple Science GCSEs: Curriculum Planning and Design. GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Morris, Pam; Quill, John
Learning and Skills Network (NJ3)
This publication will provide managers and others with practical advice on how to plan, develop and model the Triple Science requirement, taking into account all the critical factors that need to be considered. This guidance concentrates on curriculum planning and design, including the use of the new (2006) specifications to provide Triple Science at Key stage 4. Its audience is curriculum planners, managers and subject leaders in science. The sections move from the national picture, including forthcoming 11-19 curriculum developments, to the shape of the Key stage 4 curriculum and the place of science in it. Curriculum models of Triple Science delivery are supplemented by case studies that illustrate practice in a range of schools in different circumstances and localities. Appendix 1 explores the GCSE specifications offered by the awarding bodies and the different patterns of external and internal assessment available. It discusses factors to consider in choosing a Triple Science specification that best fits a school's needs and circumstances. Appendix 2 presents a list of useful organizations, and Appendix 3 presents a list of LSN science publications. (Contains 4 figures.)
