Making Mathematics Placement Decisions for High School Students with High Incidence Disabilities: A Collective Case Study
Murzyn, Amy; Hughes, Trudie
American Secondary Education, v43 n2 p44-58 Spr 2015
This multiple case study described the experiences of case managers making mathematics placement decisions for high school students with high incidence disabilities. Participants included three parents, three students, three case managers, three mathematics teachers, and three administrators from different high schools across rural, suburban and urban settings. Findings from the case studies indicated that the placement process was a team decision, but a lack of meaningful parent participation among parents was perceived at all sites. Additionally, although a range of special education services was available, not all student needs were being met across the sites.
