Exploring Small Animal Care. Teacher's Guide.
Livesey, Dennis W.
This course guide in small animal care is designed to give students seeking employment in veterinary hospitals, kennels, or pet shops an opportunity to (1) develop basic skills in small animal handling, sanitation of housing, and nutrition, (2) acquire skills in dog and cat grooming, including shop operation, (3) develop attitudes which contribute to successful animal care and client rapport, (4) make use of various reference texts and other materials, and (5) establish correct safety habits. It is suggested that the course be presented three hours a day, five days a week for eight weeks. Following introductory material on job outlook and opportunities in the small animal care field, the guide includes six units: Basic Skills, Office Techniques, Kennel Operations, Animal Handling and Restraining, Grooming, and Technical Skills. The units are composed of from four to ten lessons, with each lesson including a lesson title, behavioral objective and corresponding teacher activity, student activity, estimated time, and, where applicable, related theory and concepts and visual aids. Supplementary diagrams and illustrations are included throughout the guide. (SH)
