Trends in Family Child Care
Neugebauer, Roger
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n201 p22-24 Sep-Oct 2011
The author presents insights from various readers of "ExchangeEveryDay" regarding trends in the world of family child care. Kathleen Reticker of Acre Family Child Care in Lowell, Massachusetts thinks an increasing trend in Family Child Care is the pressure to emulate a Center, instead of seeing family child care as a different model. Over the years child care centers have become more and more like schools and now family child care homes are becoming like mini-centers. Rather than emulating centers, she would love to see family child care promote the strengths that they offer children. Marian of Rockin Round the Clock Childcare in North Ridgeville, Ohio said her concern and biggest competition is unregulated child care providers. Teri Talan of McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership in Wheeling, Illinois believes that family child care needs to be a more integral part of each state's early learning and development system.
