The history of prohibiting cameras in courtrooms is summarized in this document, and the arguments for and against the use of electronic media in the courtroom are enumerated. Several states now permit some form of broadcasting in their courtrooms; their codes and guidelines are described and evaluated. Suggestions are offered by which other states may institute new codes for using electronic media in the courtroom. (Author/RL)
