Science Career Magazine.
Halsey, Linda B., Ed.; Sweeley, Charles C., Ed.
This magazine is designed for teachers and students in junior and senior high schools. It is intended to help students become more aware about what scientists and engineers do, what's new and exciting in the fields of science and engineering, and what satisfactions might be expected from a career in one of the many different areas of science and engineering. It contains descriptions of 10 disciplines with short autobiographical statements prepared by scientists or engineers in that discipline. These disciplines are: anatomy (Eldridge F. Johnson); biochemistry (John Law, Franklin D. Hamilton, Bradley T. Sheares, Robert Barker, and John Pierce); biology (Clarice Gaylord, Clifton Poodry, Evelyn Rivera, and DeLill Nasser); chemistry (Bert Fraser-Reid, Henry Taube, Anne Swanson, and Ignacio Tinoco); engineering (John Slaughter and Robert V. Edwards); microbiology (Ramon Pinon, Gerald V. Stokes, and Keith R. Yamamoto); pathology (Eugene W. Adams and Tracie E. Bunton); pharmacology (Yvonne Clement-Courmier, Janice Stickney, Paul Sato, and Stuart Taylor); physics (Homer Neal, Walter Massey, Michael Nieto, and Eugene Tademaru; and physiology (Sarah Gray). A special feature on women and minorities in space is included, with statements prepared by Sally Ride, Guy Bluford, and Franklin Chang-Diaz. (JN)
