For each reference work there is a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" card with information about the work in brief, standardized format. The card indicates what the subject coverage is, the types of materials included, the service given, frequency of publication, procedure for use, an example of the procedure, a sample entry with explanatory notes, other places to look for similar kinds of information, and sometimes other uses of the publication. Forty guides have been published, with 120 per year planned. The types of reference works included are bibliographies, indexes, guides, handbooks, statistics, abstracting publications, directories, gazetteers, encyclopedias, quotation sources, biographical publications, yearbooks, auto repair manuals, college guides, dictionaries, catalogs, literary sources, business and trade publications, and political references.
