"Utilization of Skills in the Care of the Patient with Common, Well-Defined Health Deviations I" (NS 217) is an associate degree nursing course offered at Chattanooga State Technical Community College to help students develop new competencies necessary for the care of patients with deviations of the cardiovascular, endocrine, integumentary, and gastrointestinal subsystems; and to introduce basic concepts and principles related to acid-base balance. The course syllabus for NS 217 begins with information on class, laboratory, and credit hours; prerequisites; textbooks; week-by-week course content; course competencies; evaluation criteria; and curriculum coding. The bulk of the syllabus presents competencies, information sheets, assignments, and questions keyed to the textbook for each of the six course units. The units focus on: (1) acid-base balance; (2) burns; (3) the gastrointestinal subsystem; (4) the liver and associated structures; (5) the endocrine subsystem; and (6) the cardiovascular subsystem.
