State Vocational Education Resource Document: Planning for the Intermediate Future.
Broadbent, William
This report, which presents various economic and demographic data about Hawaii, is intended to assist persons responsible for the short-term planning of vocational-technical education programs in the state. The report is organized in terms of a series of potentially relevant concerns that should be considered during the educational planning process. The first part summarizes the major demographic projections for the state, examines the relationship between employment opportunities and population growth, and discusses ethnic projections and their influence on employment. Part 2 discusses the likely course of economic development on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Lanai, Kauai, Molokai, and Maui and examines the role of defense in the state's economic development. The third part deals with the implications of demographic trends, population growth, ethnicity, industry, and economic development for vocational education and describes the state's employment outlook for the foreseeable future. A series of tables and technical data about the state as a whole and the individual islands is appended. (MN)
