Condition and Co-Ordination Abilities in Motor Performance of Preschool Children
Ruzbarska, Ingrid; Piatkowska, Monika
Physical Education and Sport, v52 p65-68 2008
Study aim: To assess motor performance of pre-school children and the hierarchy of motor and physical variables. Material and methods: A group of 64 boys and 60 girls aged 5-6 years were subjected to 7 motor tests measuring the condition and co-ordination features. The results were subjected to cluster analysis in order to establish the hierarchy of variables. Results: No significant gender-related differences were found except body mass and standing broad jump (p less than 0.01), boys being superior to girls in those respects. On the other hand, the hierarchical structure of studied variables was different in boys and girls. Conclusions: The hierarchy of somatic and motor variables is gender-dependent as early as the pre-school age. This fact would enable a better insight into the ontogenetic development of physical features. (Contains 2 figures and 1 table.)
