This volume consists of six papers. "Harold Pinter's 'The Birthday Party': A Language Problem in the Teaching of Literature," by J. McDonough, examines the area of overlap between the style of Pinter and the teaching of literature to foreign undergraduate students of English. "Linguistic and Psychological Background to Sequencing of Initial Presentation in TEFL," by S. H. McDonough, discusses the decisions that have to be made in sequencing units of "common core" of a foreign language for beginners, and outlines the contribution of psychology to this process. "Revolutionary Epistemics and Language Learning," by J. T. Roberts, discusses the implications for institutional language teaching of the view that the educational process in Britain and other countries is ill-conceived and should be changed. "Rebuilding a Pedagogy of Language," by M. Taylor, is a response to the preceding paper. "Cognitive-Experiential Second Language Learning," by I. M. Roca, and "A French Reading Course," by P. J.
