Sign-Talk: Public Communication for the Hearing Impaired. Revised Edition.
Lytle, Jayne S.; Gawlik, Rudolph
The major goals of this communication textbook for hearing impaired students are to illustrate that public speaking is an activity for hearing impaired persons, to discuss public speaking techniques unique to hearing impaired communicators, and to facilitate comprehension of content by special learning devices. Separate chapters deal with public speaking and the deaf communicator, the communication process, informative speaking, topic selection, speech purpose, organizing and outlining the body of the speech, introducing and concluding the speech, verbal supporting materials, visual supporting materials, finding supporting materials, taking notes, posutre and breathing, styles of manual communication, effective use of simultaneous communication, and microphone techniques. Each chapter includes a self-test and lists of suggested activities and readings. Appendixes present sample speech outlines, sample speeches, and answers to the self-tests. (GW)
