"I Fell in Love with This Building"
Speight, Sarah
Adults Learning, v24 n1 p32-35 Aut 2012
In 2010, the University of Nottingham closed its adult education centre on Shakespeare Street in the heart of the city. This formed part of the strategy of the School of Education to relocate all its staff and courses to the Jubilee Campus, and to re-brand its adult education provision, in the wake of the withdrawal of funding for equivalent or lower qualifications (ELQs), as an undergraduate degree programme. This article explores the impact of this closure upon staff and students by analysing 35 written "memories" that were submitted during summer 2010 as the School of Education worked through a series of closing events: lunchtime lectures, an exhibition, and a formal evening of reflections from distinguished adult educators.
