This catalog, for specialists in the Area Agencies on Aging system, outlines specialized products and services, currently available in the private marketplace, which may enhance the independence of the elderly. The body of the catalog is divided into nine sections according to technological areas; a brief description of each area and the types of products it includes is provided at the beginning of each section. The areas are: (1) appliances; (2) clothing; (3) communications/electronics; (4) food; (5) health and safety; (6) home building and design; (7) recreation; (8) transportation; and (9) catalogs and manuals. Additionally, individual items in the catalog are indexed in four areas: personal needs categories, relating to daily chores, and activities and feelings that add to the quality of life; physiological limitations, which covers categories of limitations imposed by aging or health problems; business; and products. Listings for each item include: catalog classification; product brand name; name, address and telephone number of the distributor; product specifications, e.g., cost, size, color; and description of the product, e.g., function, operation, special features, and availability. The catalog also includes evaluation forms for specific products, and recommendation forms for items not in the catalog.
