Keeping Current. The Games Students Play: Having Fun and Learning in the Library Media Center
Fox, Kathleen
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v21 n4 p50-51 Dec 2004
Past research has indicated that children become active learners by "active play" which may include board games. In this article, the author describes how the use of games in school libraries may make children more responsive to the school library media center. Games encourage teamwork and creativity, and experts believe that children retain information longer if that information is given in a format their brain can process. Games do not have to be overly elaborate or complicated, just interesting enough to capture the audience's attention and keep it. Education masked as entertainment is the key.
