In seeking an understanding of the teenage brain, this author was struck by the interplay between the development of executive functioning and the development of the system that controls emotions and memory. This in turn has impacted her work as a member of faculty at a seminary with responsibilities for both directing a program with high school students, "youTheology," and teaching at the seminary level. Not surprisingly, however, it has also reinforced the importance of some of her teaching practices. While teenage brain development remains her focus, the author connects with neuroeducation, which brings together neuroscience, psychology, and education. There is therefore an aspect from general brain research that has added a new dimension to her work in the seminary classroom and youth ministry, namely the arts and the brain. On discovering the role of the arts in learning and reinforcing knowledge, the author is more careful to incorporate various forms of artistic expression in the classroom and in the program, for example, during mentor training and evaluation. This has met with positive responses. Paying attention to brain matters has enhanced her leadership of "youTheology" and her classroom teaching. This research has reaffirmed critical aspects of the program.
