This book is designed to assist practitioners who work with families teach life skills to parents, caregivers, and older teenagers to help families solve daily living problems. Chapters 1 through 3 of the book describe the development of and need for this practitioners' guide, discuss the importance of skill teaching, and present the organization of the skills in the book. Chapters 3 through 14 focus on the following problem areas: (1) communication; (2) education; (3) housing; (4) medical needs; (5) money management; (6) child supervision; (7) social support; (8) nutrition; (9) sexual abuse; (10) stress; and (11) home safety. Each chapter offers an introduction that explains the problem area, followed by a list of skills that can be taught in that area. Under each skill heading is a list of component behaviors or steps that comprise the skill. For quick reference, a table delineating which living skills can be taught in each area is provided at the end of the book. (KB)
