Kilic, Selda
Educational Research and Reviews, v8 n19 p1797-1803 Oct 2013
The aim of this study is to determine 9th class students knowledge about the internal structures of mice and cockroaches using drawings. Drawings of 122 students from the 9th class of a high school in the center of Konya about the internal structures of mice and cockroaches have been analyzed. Drawings were analyzed independently by two researchers and scored using a seven point scale developed by Reiss and Tunnicliffe (2001). Variance analysis and Chi-Square test were employed in the statistical analysis of the data obtained. The findings revealed that the students know the digestive system of mouse better than that of the cockroach. Moreover, they mostly drew stomach and intestines of insects' digestive system and only half of them knew about the presence of a heart in insects. The present study might be significant as student learn the structures living creatures that are important for biodiversity comparatively, and to know their common features and taxonomy.
