Advances in Computer-Supported Learning
Neto, Francisco; Brasileiro, Francisco
Information Science Publishing
The Internet and growth of computer networks have eliminated geographic barriers, creating an environment where education can be brought to a student no matter where that student may be. The success of distance learning programs and the availability of many Web-supported applications and multimedia resources have increased the effectiveness of computer-supported learning. However, technology continues to grow and keeping up with the latest trends can be difficult. "Advances in Computer-Supported Learning" clarifies the new technologies, applications, and research in computer-supported learning. It helps students, teachers, and researchers gain a larger understanding of this field and the trends that are driving computer-supported learning forward. It shares the knowledge of international researchers in computer-supported learning, presenting the practices and challenges faced by designers. Readers of this book will gain an understanding of the current state of computer-supported learning and where it will be in the future. This book contains 15 chapters: (1) A Comparative Analysis of Computer-Supported Learning Models and Guidelines (Fethi Inan and Deborah Lowther); (2) Integrating Visual Representation of Knowledge with Learning Management Systems (John Coffey); (3) Peer Review In Computer Sciences (Vinicius Kern, Roberto dos Santos Pacheco, Luciana Saraiva and Joyce Pernigotti); (4) Learning Management Systems (William Watson, Sunnie Lee and Charles Reigeluth); (5)Integrating Computer-Supported Learning into Traditional Distance Courses (Cengiz Aydin, Mehmet Mutlu and Marina McIsaac); (6) E'Learing (Bernhard Ertl, Katrin Winkler and Heinz Mandle); (7) Towards the Educational Semantic Web (Juan Adan-Coello, Carlos Tobar, Joao Garcia Rosa and Ricardo de Freitas); (8) Using Semantis Web Technologies within E-Learning Applications (Wilson Branco Neto); (9) Using Open Archives and Learning Objectives for Reusing CSL Contents (Rogerio Chagas do Nascimento); (10) Implementing Computer-Supported Learning in Corporations (Doris Lee and Steve Boreland); (11) Awareness Design in Online Collaborative Learning (Curtis Bonk, Seung-hee Lee, Xiaojing Lin and Bude Su); (12) Communication, Coordination, and Cooperation in Computer-Supported Learning (Carlos Lucena, Hugo Fuks, Alberto Raposo, Marco Gerosa and Mariano Pimental); (13) Video Annotation in Online Collaborative Discussion (Myint Khine); (14) Educational Geostimulation (Vasco Furtado and Eurico Vasconcelos); and (15) Balancing Tradeoffs in Designing, Deploying, and Authoring Interactive Web-Based Learn-By-Doing Environments (Lin Qiu).
