The National Association for Girls and Women in Sport: 110 Years of Promoting Social Justice and Change
Ladda, Shawn
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v80 n7 p48-51 Sep 2009
From writing the first Guidebooks for hockey, soccer, swimming, track and field, and basketball, to lobbying Congress to strive for equity and equal opportunities for girls, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) has been and continues to be the beacon in education to advance fairness and equity in sports. As NAGWS enters its 110th year and we celebrate AAHPERD's 125th anniversary, it is exciting to see such progress with increased opportunities for all in quality physical education and sport. But there is also much more work to be done. This article traces the history of NAGWS and its many accomplishments, and it discusses the organization's challenges and future goals.
