Every year, the prevalence of children with autism increases, and community programs should be prepared to address the needs of this population. Comprehensive Treatment Models (CTMs) are in place to help serve children with autism, but the components of these programs are diverse. Furthermore, recommendations from prominent organizations such as the Division for Exceptional Children are available to some providers, but it is unknown to what extent CTMs are using these recommendations. The purpose of this study was to conduct a thorough, comprehensive research synthesis of early intervention literature in order to organize and synthesize information about existing inclusive comprehensive treatment models for children with autism. The results of the synthesis were then combined with recommendations from prominent organizations and used to develop a program model, Ben's Model, for guiding inclusive comprehensive treatment programs for young children with autism. Ben's Model focuses on the collaboration of family, evidence-based research, and professionals, as recommended by Turnbull and colleagues (2007). This study is a research synthesis, defined by Cooper et al. (2009, p. 6) as an "attempt to integrate empirical research for the purpose of creating generalizations." After data were collected, inductive analysis was used to analyze data and discover emerging themes and patterns from the six studies identified by search and selection criteria.
