Indians in Careers.
Hollow, Kitty, Ed.; Heuving, Jeanne, Ed.
Every student in high school is faced with the question of what to do after graduation. American Indian students, whether on or off reservations, need ideas as to what is available to them. This compilation of interviews with 10 individuals who are maintaining their "Indian identity" and making contributions in the working world provides role models of Indian adults in various careers. Those interviewed discuss what a typical day is like, what they like best and least about their job, and what it took to get where they are. Following each interview is a brief summary of the career, providing information about training and qualifications, employment outlook, salary expectations, pros and cons of the career, related jobs, and where to write for further information. Photographs show each person interviewed at work. Those interviewed are John Kauffram, actor; Steven Old Coyote, rancher; Pete Bolima, land planner; Harry Wong, real estate agent; Sandy Charwood, bus driver; Ron Shaw, doctor; Maiselle Bridges, tribal councilwoman; Cooney Starr, bank teller; Claudia Kristovich, secretary; Jim Desautel, television reporter; Kitty Hollow, teacher; Mary Lou Marcyes, fisherwoman; and Harold Belmont, alcoholism counselor.
